Performance Solution Scenario:
Exit Stair, Internal Handrail on Mid-Landing
Identified Design Issue
The exit stair internal handrail will have a vertical or angled section on each mid-landing. The stairway is in place, and it is not feasible to demolish and rebuild within the existing shaft.
Departure from Deemed-to-Satisfy Provisions
Due to spatial constraints within the building, the first ascending riser from the mid-landing is not set forward at a depth of one stair tread, resulting in a vertical section on the internal handrail of the exit stair.
The Performance Solution
The solution accepts the proposed exit stairway design, on the basis that the stairway is existing and being upgraded with a new internal handrail.
This example is a hypothetical scenario and must not be used for any specific project.
