The stairway will have a reduced width of less than 1000mm between handrails.

Departure from Deemed-to-Satisfy Provisions

Due to spatial constraints within the building, a minimum clearance of 1000mm between handrails cannot be achieved in the stairway flight.

The Performance Solution

From an egress perspective, in a building with a low number of occupants on the upper level, single-file evacuation via the staircase can be completed before emergency services arrive, eliminating the need for a full 1000mm clearance.
